Clapping Music

Steve Reich is one of the greatest minimalist composers of all time. His original version of this piece is simply two players, both clapping the same rhythm. The second player displaces the eight note every cycle through the rhythm and out of that comes new and interesting polyrhythms. I have taking this piece and added pitches, groove, and an interesting new take at this minimalist piece. Of course, it is no longer very minimal.

Nessun Dorma

The most famous aria from Turandot by Puccini, Nessun Dorma is a Tenor solo backed by orchestra. Orchestrated for a mallet percussion quartet, this arrangement was written for 2 marimbas, a vibraphone and a glockenspiel. Utilizes 4 mallet techniques for the marimbas.

Mellon Collie

An arrangement of a Smashing Pumpkins intro piece, Mellon Collie has been adapted for a mallet percussion ensemble of 7 players. Attempting to recreate the effects of other instruments such as oboe and string, the keyboard’s ability to be versatile and expressive are highlighted in this piece.
